The Marmara Business Platform takes its name from a sea. That imposes more than ordinary environmental sensitivity on us: the state of the Marmara is the state of our business.
Three yardsticks instead of slogans
- No improvement without measurement.
- Savings show up on the balance sheet. Recovered water and reduced energy mean a permanent fall in operating cost.
- Compliance is now a commercial condition. For exporters to the EU, water and waste performance is a standing item on customer audits.
The Marmara Sea Action Plan and industry
The plan requires all existing wastewater treatment plants in the region to be converted to advanced biological treatment, accelerates the transition to advanced technologies in organised industrial zones, and applies circular economy principles and water reuse at facilities discharging into the Marmara.
Carbon: a new cost, or a new measure?
The EU Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism entered its financial phase on 1 January 2026, covering cement, aluminium, fertiliser, iron and steel, hydrogen and electricity. Product-level carbon data is requested from the producer in Türkiye even where the declarant is the EU importer.
A road map for members
- Keep energy, water and waste data verifiable at installation level.
- Prioritise process-water recovery — usually the fastest payback.
- Calculate a product-level carbon footprint, not only a corporate one.
- Separate and recover waste; separated waste can become a revenue line.
- Start requesting data from your suppliers today.
