The Marmara Region alone produces about 50 per cent of Türkiye’s manufacturing industry and 64 per cent of its exports, and accounts for roughly one fifth of national income.
Province by province
On January 2026 figures, Istanbul leads with 4.1 billion dollars, followed by Kocaeli, İzmir and Bursa. Combined exports from Kocaeli, Bursa and Sakarya exceed 60 billion dollars. Automotive dominates in Kocaeli and Bursa; chemicals in Istanbul.
Two faces of concentration
Concentration is an advantage — a dense supplier network, short logistics distances, a deep skilled-labour pool. It is also a risk: a contraction in one sector or one export market hits the region disproportionately.
